As a Database Administrator (DBA), you are responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of a database system. Your role involves the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of database management systems (DBMS), ensuring that data remains accessible, accurate, and protected. You will collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and implement solutions to support organizational objectives.

We are only considering candidates who reside locally in Austin, TX.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Database Installation and Configuration: Install and configure database management systems (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server) according to best practices and organizational requirements.

2. Set up and manage database servers, including hardware provisioning, operating system configuration, and database software installation.

3. Database Maintenance and Optimization: Monitor database performance, including resource utilization, query execution times, and database throughput.

4. Implement database tuning strategies to optimize performance, such as index optimization, query optimization, and database caching.
5. Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and database consistency checks, to ensure data integrity and availability.

1. Data Security and Access Control: Implement security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access, including user authentication, access controls, and encryption.

2. Define and enforce data security policies and procedures in compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and organizational requirements.

3. Monitor database access logs and audit trails to detect and respond to security incidents and potential breaches.

4. Database Design and Schema Management: Collaborate with developers and data architects to design database schemas that meet application requirements and performance goals.

5. Review and optimize database schema designs for efficiency, scalability, and data integrity.

6. Manage database objects, such as tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures, to ensure consistency and usability.

7. Backup and Disaster Recovery: Implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data availability and continuity in the event of hardware failures, natural disasters, or other emergencies.

8. Test backup and recovery procedures regularly to verify their effectiveness and minimize downtime in case of a disaster.

9. Maintain disaster recovery plans and documentation to guide response and recovery efforts in crisis situations.
