Senior Principal Software Engineer (ASP.NET/SQL Server – Legacy & Modern Applications)

Job Type: Contract (Full-Time, Remote – USA Only)
Start Date: 09/15/2025
Location: 100% Remote (Work within the United States)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST


About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced IT professional with a proven track record of more than 25 years in software development and production support. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in maintaining and modernizing legacy ASP and ASP.NET applications, advanced database skills in SQL Server, and hands-on experience in modern frameworks and tools.

This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and multitasking skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while ensuring timely resolution of production issues and delivery of scalable software solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance classic ASP and ASP.NET web applications.

  • Architect and optimize database schemas; design, write, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and stored procedures.

  • Work with Entity Framework, SSRS, and SSIS packages.

  • Build and maintain Web APIs using .NET Core, applying RESTful best practices.

  • Utilize technologies including C#, Visual Studio, SQL Server (SSMS), TypeScript, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap.

  • Ensure applications comply with 504 ADA accessibility standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver new features.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Apply DevOps practices and work with CI/CD pipelines.

  • Work in Agile/Scrum teams to support project delivery.

  • Experience with ArcGIS is a plus.


Candidate Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • 25+ years of hands-on software development experience across legacy and modern technologies.

  • 20+ years working with legacy ASP and ASP.NET web applications (please list project names in your resume).

  • 20+ years of experience with SQL Server, including database design, schema design, stored procedures, and SSRS.

  • 15+ years of experience with front-end technologies: HTML, TypeScript, CSS, JavaScript.

  • 15+ years of experience with unit testing frameworks and tools.

  • 5+ years of experience working with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) across multiple projects (must list projects).

  • 5+ years experience with ADA 504 compliance for web applications.

Preferred:

  • Experience with ArcGIS software.
